Just finished reading A Life Less Heavy by Nigel Planer, what a great read. Cried with laughter at parts of it, unfortunately for me whilst on a train. #booksky

I admire the stance of FC United Of Manchester to opt out of this. Step 3-4 now move some fixtures to accommodate streaming, whatever next? southern-football-league.co.uk/News/137192/...

“Grok can make mistakes”. I was going to say that I missed the Downton episode where Lord Grantham entered into a frank debate with Earl Gilbert of Braintree.

Using old Evening Standards to clean out rabbit hutches. These words of wisdom from last August, their “according to reports” didn’t happen and probably won’t for a few years…. No mention of Liverpool’s chances in the entire article, so the chief football correspondent did well here(!)

Thoughts with that Daily Mail journo who wrote that story about Leah Williamson a few weeks back. Expecting her to jump on the bandwagon in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

Wishing all at Morecambe well. To go from being fairly stable in League 1 a few years ago (they faced ITFC during their L1 era), to this very troubling situation, is devastating for the town. I do sometimes wonder if it’s possible to fail the “fit and proper ownership” test, has it ever happened?!

Notable observation from Seb Hutchison on ITVs coverage that England fans applauded the Wales national anthem. This is something I’ve seen at a number of international women’s fixtures and is good to see. Additionally the lack of play-acting / diving is refreshing.

Unique hybrid of music last night at our house: Soul II Soul blasting loudly across from Venue 16, versus Ed at ITFC which I could just about hear during the gaps.

I wonder how long it will take defenders to stop raising their arm in hope of an offside when VAR is present? Norway’s defence not covering themselves in glory for that goal…

Seen Supergrass, Shed Seven and Alanis Morrissette on the Glastonbury coverage today, some of the 1990s stuff holds its own today. Saw all of them live 29 years ago, i feel very old…

Suddenly I feel a little pleased that my team was relegated last season…. Can’t wait for the cliched responses from subbed players, and the first instance of an injury caused by a camera.
Touchline interviews with substituted players and camera access to dressing rooms are set to feature in Premier League TV coverage next season. Camera operators will also be allowed to briefly enter the field of play to film close-ups of goal celebrations.

English-born David Evans, 63, is conferred with ‘long overdue’ Irish citizenship
After decades of finely balanced procrastination, the U2 guitarist The Edge has officially become Irish.
The 63-year-old British subject was conferred with Irish citizenship on Monday, 62 years after moving to Ireland in a step he said was “long overdue”. Continue reading...

Finished reading Final Destination by @nigetassell.bsky.social , loved every word of it. A lovely, genteel portrait of coastal areas and those who travel to them. Never realised sleeper trains had a standby list! I feel our nation’s termini give scope for a follow-up, Felixstowe, Dorset etc.

It is a sign of the stature of Man U’s team that the Premier League can have Man U vs Arsenal as an opening weekend fixture, this would never have happened a few years ago (I’ll wait for someone to tell me that it did…!)

The National League playoff final has been an enjoying listen on BBC Sports Extra 2 as an #itfc fan: goals from Joe Garner and James Norwood. Macauley Bonne and Nick Hayes playing for Southend, and even Glenn Pennyfather on co-commentary!

Pretty sure the TNT commentator on Sunday said something about it being a great PL season, then backed it up by citing Newcastle and Palace’s cup wins ie outside of the PL. Personally I found the season quite underwhelming, Bournemouth‘s comeback at Everton was quite something but otherwise…?
