also yet another reminder that Final Fantasy 13 came out at the wrong time, since that one also had 20 hours of plot wheel-spinning and aggressively linear "world" design. but it didn't bring it all home the way this one does (and its dopamine hits weren't as fine-tuned)

was pretty set on a 4 or 5/10 here but that third act really is pretty bold. turned the whole thing around for me

i don't pretend that these "deserve" attention or anything, there's still a commerce element to them of course, but i think it's still possible to do them in a way that isn't reductive or shitty or involves making referral links for potato chips. so i try to follow that. i don't know! going away now
