Crossed two items off my bucket list: the Strand and Saint John the Divine.

My daughter and I had an incredible day. She's in college in Brooklyn. It was great to hang with her.

For my kids 18th, we take them to a city with friends and let them explore. Yesterday, spent the day in NYC with my daughter while my son roamed with his boys.

5th Book of the Year: This is Strategy by Seth Godin

So, I must confess, I'm a Godin-ite. I've read every book he's written. This one felt like a summary of his ideas in a lot of ways. It reads like a daily devotional. I'd recommend reading it slow, a few passages a day.

4th Book of the year: Solar Lottery by Philip K Dick

It was amazing. It's a huge epic with all the PKD futurist weird bits. I love how PKD does world building. He doesn't explain anything until he absolutely has to and then only in context of a scene. And even though its sci-fi, its all dialogue.

Now that the weather has turned, I went back to walking Baltimore while Riggs is in dance. Fantastic stroll to MICA today. Baltimore is beautiful.

3rd Book of 2025: Joyful Recollections of Trauma by @paulscheer.com

Great engaging memoir. Do the audio book because there are extras from the podcast. Both funny and heart warming. A great picture of a person who survived and came out the other end of trauma evolved and smiling. Super recommend.

2nd Book of 2025: Rejection by @tonytula.com

This book is a collection of short stories from different POVs. Sexual content is a hard R (and not the fun kind). It's the best ending of a book I've read in a long time and the POV voices are amazing. I really recommend this one for every writer.

I set a goal for myself to read a book a week this year.

1st Book of 2025: Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar
Loved the writing. Beautifully built book. The transition between POVs was great. Didn't love the main character. He was tough to read.

Just finished Brit-Marie Was Here by Backman. Amazing book. And not the ending I saw coming. Absolutely loved it. Backman is a total master.
