I think there isn’t a horizontal axis; it’s just logos stacked left-right and centered in each percentage bin.

Looks like a fair amount of unburned propellant released. What a toxic mess.

That being said and given where we are, this *is* an opportunity to have serious discussions about and do serious work toward what’s supposed to come *after* all this with an eye toward keeping this from happening again.

For years now there have been many film and TV plots where our heroes either do, cause, or permit terrible things (BSG is a great example) so that a later, better thing can happen. I don’t think, however, that that’s how all of society ought to be conducted.

And what will we have to show for it? Videos of Jayne Mansfield and the Three Stooges in an Abrams tank going into combat against the Broadway cast of CABARET.

It reminds me in a way of what happened on 9/11. Once passengers on United 93 knew that the objective was to fly planes into buildings, they realized that their own power, albeit limited, could still affect the outcome - ultimately settling for objective denial in that case.

I’ve read it described as a kind of reverse Prisoner’s Dilemma. Once it looked like the bill might pass, it crowbarred the vote to near unanimous because the EFs are expected (barring actual foreknowledge) to be so horrifying that, once released, no one wants to be on record as suppressing them.

I'm disappointed that you don't want to be in politics but that's on me, not you; I think you'd be great at it. But seeing as you've been a professor before, would you consider teaching in Public Policy? The sort of thing you're describing in this thread IMO is something that ought to be taught.

You aren’t wrong about the hideous makeup, but it’s obvious that the lighting on the ear isn’t present on the cheek. Shadow.

His face is partially in shadow. You can tell by the reflection off the top of his earlobe that there's a light source above and in front of him and to our right. That light source isn't reaching the front right side of his face.

A nice progressive tax system would make all that unnecessary.

What’s she up to over there? I know she advocates for things like mine-clearing initiatives.

I have a hypothesis: *non-AI* data center energy consumption density (W/m^2 floor) is increasing with server hardware being run closer to capacity (perhaps in part of increased OS instance virtualization) so as AI consumption grows, non-AI is making room for it.

Adjudicated illegal monopolist says what, now?

Someone will comment this so I’d might as well: like Russia, China, Israel, Libya, Qatar, and North Korea, the US isn’t a member of the ICC.

Suffice it to say that a general strike in the US would have to be so extremely pervasive and indefinite that the socioeconomic world that existed after the strike would look very different from the one that existed when it started.
