Today is the last day of the year with four Major League Baseball games -- and all four are potential clinchers. The schedule:

Seattle (up 2-1) at Detroit, 3:08p ET

Milwaukee (2-0) at Chicago, 5:08p

Toronto (2-1) at New York, 7:08p

Philadelphia at Los Angeles (2-0), 9:08p

FINAL: Yankees 9, Blue Jays 6

Toronto was 39-0 this year in games it led by five or more runs. After Aaron Judge paced New York’s rousing, season-saving come-from-behind win with a three-run HR off the foul pole, it's 39-1. Tremendous fortitude from Yankees, awful loss for Jays.

The Yankees’ ability to barrage a team with home runs always keeps them in the game. And if they can hold the lead, which they now have after a Jazz Chisholm homer, Toronto is facing a bullpen game tomorrow, a day after their RP needed to cover 5+ innings. Not ideal for the Jays.

It's 6-1 Blue Jays. Carlos Rodón is done after giving up nearly as many runs (six) as he got outs (seven). Toronto walked into Yankee Stadium and has put a muzzle on the place.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just took Carlos Rodón deep, and the Blue Jays have a 2-0 lead 14 pitches into Game 3. He's single-handedly beating the Yankees.

FINAL: Dodgers 4, Phillies 3

In a must-win game, Philadelphia scored two in the ninth but couldn’t scratch across the most important run, with Roki Sasaki logging a one-out save. A must-win game for the Phillies ends in a crushing loss. The Dodgers have now won nine straight.

Trey Yesavage's splitter is gross.

FINAL: Dodgers 5, Phillies 3

Los Angeles steals home field by scoring five unanswered runs — all with two outs. Teoscar Hernández’s three-run homer staked the Dodgers the lead, and Tyler Glasnow, Alex Vesia and Roki Sasaki shut down Philadelphia over the final three innings.

It is 6:02 p.m. Shohei Ohtani is walking to the bullpen. And Citizens Bank Park is booing him vociferously.

Tonight is going to be fun.

The Texas Rangers have hired Skip Schumaker as their new manager. Schumaker, 45, was the National League Manager of the Year in 2023 and spent the last year as a special assistant with the Rangers. He takes over for future Hall of Famer Bruce Bochy.

You won’t even debate the “fake” one why would the “real” one debate you?
jeffpasan.bsky.social
Because you know that you’re wrong. If you thought for a second that you had a strong rebuttal, you wouldn’t be able to help yourself from typing it.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
They don’t care. They have zero World Series coverage and just terminated their contract with the MLB.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
Why in the world would ESPN care? They have zero playoff coverage past the Wild Card round.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
You would not be saying that if the Red Sox won tonight bucko.

FINAL: Yankees 4, Red Sox 0

Rookie Cam Schlittler turned in an all-time outing, striking out a dozen and walking none over eight innings, and New York advances to face Toronto in the ALDS starting Saturday.

Boston had two games to finish off the Yankees and just couldn't do it.

FINAL: Cubs 3, Padres 1

Chicago is headed to the division series and will take on top-seeded Milwaukee. The Cubs and Brewers will face off for the first time ever in the postseason.

For the Padres, another year of good but just not good enough. The brutal call insult to injury.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
Literally lmao there should be an ear piece in the umpire’s ear or something that allows them to make the call immediately with basically no delay. Two challenges a game is not going to remedy the issue when umpires are missing far more calls than that a game.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
That is a horrendous call and ABS cannot come soon enough.

FINAL: Tigers 6, Guardians 3

Following the worst division collapse in baseball history, Detroit wins the game that matters most. With a five-hit barrage to blow it open in the seventh, the Tigers will advance to the division series to face Seattle. Cleveland’s season is over.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
The Tigers smacked five hits in the seventh inning off Erik Sabrowski and Hunter Gaddis to blow the game wide open and now lead 6-1. The familiarity penalty with bullpen arms becomes a real issue this time of year, and the Tigers had seen Sabrowski and Gaddis in Games 1 and 2.

Thursday marks the second time in baseball history there will be three winner-takes-all playoff games in one day.

Tigers at Guardians (Flaherty vs. Cecconi), 3 p.m., ABC

Padres at Cubs (Darvish vs. Taillon), 5 p.m., ESPN

Red Sox at Yankees (Early vs. Schlittler), 8 p.m., ESPN

FINAL: Dodgers 8, Reds 4

Los Angeles sweeps Cincinnati and advances to the NLDS. Mookie Betts had four hits, Yoshinobu Yamamoto went seven strong and Roki Sasaki looked like a monster in the ninth.

Up next is what might be the best series this postseason: Dodgers vs. Phillies.

FINAL: Yankees 4, Red Sox 3

New York took the lead, blew it, took it again, blew it again, took it a third time and finally held it.

A very good Game 2 on the heels of a very good Game 1 will give us a Game 3 that will send either the Yankees or Red Sox home for the winter.

FINAL: Padres 3, Cubs 0

San Diego’s superpen lived up its name with 5.1 shutout innings and only one baserunner allowed. Mason Miller threw a fastball 104.5 mph and struck out all five hitters he got out. Manny Machado homered. Game 3 tomorrow at Wrigley. Winner gets Milwaukee.
