Many go through a phase where they reject good advice - a “too creative” or stubborn phase. Learn chess before or after this phase.

Almost a month after our wedding. No likes.

Have a plan, stick to it, don’t get sidetracked…

If people set up their pieces first then gently bagged them, we would have no need to reuse “Sam’s Club Flaming Hot Cheeto” boxes this way.

I still have yet to play “evil chess lottery” but maybe someday.

“Evil chess lottery. Fictitious game. Open your chess bag. If you are missing a piece or have extras, you are kicked out of the camp/tourney”

Double tasking. No good.
“People multitask while having fun. Watching a movie while playing a game on their phone, for example. I think this bad for focus. 1 fun!”

Life before kids… even then I wanted to go home.

offering a draw: 1) make your move and ask “draw?” as you release it, hit the clock. 2) if yes, offer a handshake 3) don’t offer draws.

2015. 60 camps. Wow. Consistently is still cool even though kids are a little different.

Be7 is a better move than Bc5 usually.

A sad day. Martha Jenkinson is the reason I’m in Houston.

Chess students fish for compliments, while chess parents prefer criticism. Students should become self-critical (many just fake it!).

I still have this iPad Pro. Giant. Recently iPad stopped updating its os, but it’s still great for my kids.

Bad sportsmanship spreads because everyone has the same idea - “I will be the cool guy who plays chess. No one has thought of this before.” Or “I wont show rage when I lose, but I will difuse the awkwardness of losing with something I’m good at - being funny!”

Play a bunch of good moves in a row, and avoid doing anything severely foolish. Outsmart your opponents so they make mistakes. Exploit their mistakes. Be alert tactically even though you are focused on strategy. #chesstipoftheday

Doing easy homework is fine. Create a “positive cycle of success.”

Just heard an amazing story from a student. At US class championship a person got forfeited for using some type of special eyeglasses. He was actually forfeited for refusing to let the tournament director inspect them. Developing story/rumor. #cheating #chess

A chess coach gets to feel joy. An organizer gets to feel satisfaction.
