Why would they if absolutely no one is making them
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
I mean at some point some state and local leaders are going to have to apply some pressure and get charges filed against some of these scumbags, arrest them and make them argue in court that shooting priests in the head from a rooftop is part of their official capacity as a federal officer

He pulls his hands in so fast, somehow while still getting a ton of power behind the swing, it's insane to watch
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
I think they'll have them, Dems will win tons of seats and take the house, and still nothing will change. So much of the house's power is already gone, 9 months in. Still 15 to go before the next Congress.

And then, flipping 4 Senate seats in deep red states, while protecting MI and GA? Not likely
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
I don't know how to explain it but for some reason I feel like this one is particularly bluesky if that makes sense lol
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
He has an INSANE ability to pull his hands in on those swings. I don't think I've really ever seen any other guys make good contact on those let alone crush them

Employers pay fed taxes on your behalf. The money doesn't magically appear. It's yours. They send it for you. Gov can tell local companies to put fed taxes in escrow (or whatever) and make Trump come sue for it. Get creative! But try something. Don't throw your hands up and say oh well.

This is what I've been saying up and down on this thread with lots of people telling me that's also not possible because federal tax withholding is required by law. As if we're going to manage to get out of a fascist autocracy while following the fascists' rules to a T
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Thank you for following up with this, if I keep getting replies from explaining to me that the state doesn't give the money to the feds I can just refer them here instead of patiently having them talk to me like I'm five years old
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Yes I understand the state doesn't manage tax withholding. Employers do. The state of California for example is a major employer. And I understand every person would still owe the taxes at the end of the year. But in the meantime, less revenue for the death camps.

We're gonna need some creative solutions here my guy, we can't just shake off every possibility with nah they can't do it because tax law says so, nah it's all automated we can't change it now that would be annoying, etc.

What we "cannot" do is continue funding our own demise, but what do I know
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
This is fantasy world stuff man. He will break the law anyway, every single day. In some cases, (not most! just some), a judge is able to stop the lawbreaking, but that is the only consequence. There is no reining him in without 67 senators or a legitimate supreme court.
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Once again you are not understanding what I'm saying but whatever, forget the tax idea, it's one idea.

But man, lots of you are in for a very rude awakening when 2027 comes along and nothing is different from 2026 (but it'll surely be worse than now! Lots more time for things to get worse til then)
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Trump lost a case in federal court. This isn't about legislation, this is about a federal judge blocking him from doing something illegal. So the judicial system still works every now and then. Big fuckin deal. For every one of these, there 5 where they just let him do whatever the fuck he wants
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Ah shit really? Because in an earlier reply where you scolded me for "waiting for someone else to do the resisting for me" it seemed like you were trying to imply you were actually doing something more than scolding strangers on the internet. Guess I misread that and you were just being a dick huh
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
It feels like you're not even trying to understand the words I'm writing. I'm not saying everyone is gonna willfully risk 5 years in jail to stand up to Trump. Just never mind man, let me know about the general strike you're planning, I'll help however I can
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Bro, how? They can end the filibuster to pass legislation. Trump doesn't give a fuck about legislation.

Also 51 senators is a borderline pipe dream. They'd need to flip 4 senators, all in deep red states besides Georgia, and they are attacking voting rights aggressively there too! Not happening
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
Ask yourself what Dems will do when they have 235 reps and maybe 51 senators (extremely optimistic scenario, more likely less than 50 again). Keep in mind they're not law enforcement, can't enforce subpoenas, can't actually do anything to force the executive branch to behave differently
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
I don't think he can stop them from winning elections, but I don't think it will matter much because Congress barely has power anymore without supermajorities. And the redistricting + general assault on voter rights in red and purple states will make that impossible (and it wasn't likely anyway)
jeffreyharharwood.bsky.social
I think we both know a general strike is uniquely difficult in this country because people have no safety nets and no health benefits without their jobs. Seems to me like a pretty tall order that won't be realistic until the fascism escalates to the point where most white people already feel unsafe
