I can recall Timer's voice so well - this was actually the 2nd voice actor, Lennie Weinrib. I did this frozen OJ thing (but we had plastic sleeves and reuseable plastic handles from a store)

Thanks Kay

I thought it was Lennie Weinrib (the original voice for Scrappy-Doo)

I seems like there were 2 voice actors for Timer. By the time of the ABC edu-mmercials it was Lennie Weinrib.

A great and memorable voice, extoling use to eat cheese and crackers, or a bit of frozen OJ

And for dessert? A little Sunshine on a Stick!

*Timer, animated by DePatie Freleng, and voiced by Lenny Maxwell (who was also the voice of Punchy, the Hawaiian Punch mascot. Oh yeah)
jeffscomics.bsky.social
You might be right! Len Maxwell may be the original voice actor, but by this time there was a new voice actor - Lennie Weinrib!

Avast and Enjoy Captain Crunch

Jay Ward Productions did the original 1963 animated commercials - the character was acually created by 23 year old Allan Burns, who later co-created the Mary Tyler Moore Show. What a great design. He got paid $1000 for the it.

When did Captain Crunch lose his sword?
jeffscomics.bsky.social
Wow ... they really did not like the 2011 Captain America movie.

To be fair, Captain Crunch is pretty boss.
jeffscomics.bsky.social
Ha! You earn a Touché Turtle for that!

I get flagged on a regular basis. Its bizarre and I
wish the pearl clutching fig leaf brigade that oversees the algorithm would tone it own - but 2025 has enough issues, so I just mock it when silly flagging hapens.

Right. Its partly honest food labeling and industry lobbies
A few years back the dairy industry took umbrage at nut milk. We should be able to have nouns do this kind of broadstrokes differentiation.

Thats cool! I grew up with the earlier Ultraman (who haf a beta capsule). 2 rings, 2 people, usually 2 genders.
jeffscomics.bsky.social
Wait? a 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon getting tagged as Adult Content?

I guess one of the nuns who run moderation thinks Thing Ring is a sex aid.
ebstudios42.bsky.social
There's also the "Thing Rings," which are one of the more weirder elements from the Hanna-Barbera library for the solo cartoon of The Thing.

Just... So damn weird.

1 person clanging 2 rings together gets used later by DC comics to let Dan the Dyna-mite power-up without TNT as well!

Also funny this got tagged as adult content. 😀
jeffscomics.bsky.social
They absolutely did, and Shazzan / Shazam cannot be a coincidence. This was that time when Shazam was essentially a forgotten property, years before DC licensed it.

The voice cast is nicely familiar though, with the same voices as Josie and Alan from Josie and the Pussycats.
jeffscomics.bsky.social
The Thinker is the first one that comes to mind, followed by No, not the Gesundheit!
jeffscomics.bsky.social
Does the 'needs 2 to use' predate even TNT and Dan the Dyna-Mite?

I don't think so, except in the general idea of things needing sign and countersign, or two keys to open a vault or a safe deposit box. In modern times, I think of needing two keys to arm the missiles.

Daily Hanna Barbera Bonus

While "Wondertwins Powers! Activate" is the best known case of 'needs 2 to use', it didn't originate in Superfriends (1977), or Shazzan (1967)

A similar (non-sibling) version goes back to Mort Weisinger's TNT and Dan the Dyna-Mite in Star Spangled Comics 7 (1942)

WonderTwin Powers! Activate ... er, not quite

The 1967 Alex Toth created show Shazzan (1967) has a very similar element, where Chuck and his sister Nancy, must put their fists together to complete a ring to summon the genie.

The cat really doesn't have a name, but is referenced as "The Supreme Cat" but I like McKimson Cat. Same thing with the dog as just McKimson Dog.
jeffscomics.bsky.social
The 'joke' was that the cat would spin a wheel of penalties, which had a filing cabinet to match the number to things like 'Gesundheit' or 'Roll out the Barrel'

They were directed by Robert McKimson, who did great stuff like Hillbilly Hare and The Hole Idea.
jeffscomics.bsky.social
Oh no! Not the ...

Gotta say, the bulldog with the wheel of penalties and the cat cartoons were a bridge too far for me. The Itchy and Scratchy of its day.
