I love that our anonymous insider briefings are on the theme of "make hope normal again". 😁

Nobody is presenting a realistic 'road map'. Greens definitely aren't. This is a test case thst we are failing.

The best chance we have of coping with the sheer numbers is fairly distributing across every council in the country. Fairly meaning proportionate to population size or number of homes.

3/ Rachel Millward said in her latest PR video says
"And people say what should we be doing?" Meaning about housing.

"Well asylum seekers should have the right to work ..." and sidestepped housing. Exactly as Zoe Gardner does in her "is the UK full?" video.

They know there is a massive shortage.

2/ Who in Greens is the champion or spokesperaon for these marginalised groups and the impact of the housing crisis? Like Zoe Gardner is for refugees?

Nobody.

It's accepted for them to be in overcrowded or unsuitable temporary accommodation until we build more housing years hence.

You aren't being as clear as possible. You are intellectualising and sanitising the immediacy and urgency of the word 'crisis'.

Almost everyone who is homeless has "specific support needs". Whether a rough sleeper, early release prisoner, young family being evicted, refugee, care leaver.

4/ "The rapid rise of renters in their 60s: ‘I hate the idea of house-sharing – but I have no choice’

It is often assumed that people of retirement age will no longer have housing costs to cover. But for a significant & growing group, this is far from the case"

3/ Sofa surfers (often single men) aren't counted.

"English councils moving homeless families out of areas at almost 3 times official rate
Exclusive: Data shows more than 34,000 households placed out of area last year, with some moved more than 200 miles away"

2/ They cope with the pressure on numbers by shipping people out. Some being cynical 'social cleansing'.

Deprived (cheap) areas like mine are drowning in households being shipped in on top of our own turnover.

Stil 132,000 households in temp accommodation DESPITE the shipping out.

"Crisis" denotes immediacy & urgency.

An online definition of 'housing crisis'
"a widespread housing shortage in places where people want to live or a financial crisis in the housing market."

Both are true in different regions. London & others has soaring rents and landlords scalping.

That utopia doesn't exist.

We have 132,000 households in temporary accommodation, often overcrowded. We have early release prisoners, we have rough sleepers needing winter shelter, we have up to 1000 more refugees arriving daily.

They ALL deserve better but that's not the legacy of the Tories.
November 13, 2025 at 9:45 PM
This is a different shade of NIMBYism @rachelmillward.bsky.social

Sussex MUST take its share of single adults needing temporary accommodation. Sufficient provision of permanent housing DOES NOT EXIST. Deprived cities have been taking large numbers for years & NO they are not spread out.
November 13, 2025 at 9:41 PM
It's still the 'refugees are potentially violent criminals' trope.

"But for Starmer's cabinet, there are no safe seats" 😂

Cath Bacon! I know of her from FB. She was an indie candidate last I heard. Chuffed to see her standing as a Green.

Pleased to see Hawarun Hussain standing too. I know of her work.

Language classes that exist are crying out for English-speaking volunteers to help practice conversation with the students. It's not just that we need funding for classrooms and teachers at all.

Not hearing any publicity about this, when it would help integration and reduce the fearmongering.

2/ Our B&Bs and hostels are full of former rough sleepers and prison leavers. Other cities have actually asked government to stop sending more refugees because they can't cope.

💯 Austerity, Brexit and political choices led us to this crisis point, but it's not quickly or easily reversible.
November 13, 2025 at 11:16 AM
2/ We see this in Bradford. We aren't a 'holiday destination' but we have visitors - we are City of Culture 2025, plus weddings or on business.

We have refugees in not only the budget hotels but in the banqueting/ wedding type hotels.

The problem is we (the country) don't have two resources, money and time. Bulding, renovating, converting takes time. Changing the law to kill off Airbnb or co-opt empty 'luxury' flats takes time.

Part of the rise of Airbnb as short lets has been that so many hotels are full of refugees.

She's had a dose of reality. I trust that Greens top table are having urgent meetings, and this reality check will result in better handling (of the housing crisis, of the refugees, of the comms) by Greens.
November 13, 2025 at 10:30 AM
3/ Welsh Greens and Scottish Greens are growing, so hopefully they will have resources to ramp up campaigning and comms. 🤞

Maybe make contact with your local party and find out whether they are revving up to fight elections in your area?
November 13, 2025 at 10:04 AM
2/ Greens are ethical about who we accept bigger donations from. We cannot be bought by lobbyists like the Labour government has been. IDK anything about how SNP are funded, you likely know more than I do.
