From the moment you win the ball back

When you’re in front of goal

When you’ve beaten a player in a 1v1 and need to find a next pass

From fire 🔥 to ice cold ❄️

The core under pining principles how how I want my teams to play

No matter the level

How they’re applied and how it looks will look different depending on the team and situation

But these never do

Practice working on defending against direct play concept I've just come up with - happy to take thoughts and comments

Main focus
Back 4 dropping in against long ball

Secondary focus
Midfield screening and sliding ball into front players

Tertiary focus
2nd balls and counter attacking

Look, what happened was obviously horrible but don’t make try and say free shots and beer buckets are bad things 😂

My first intervention from my session Tuesday.

Muted audio for obvious reasons but from my development point of view the fact it lasted less than 30 seconds is really pleasing.

Worked hard to get rid of the waffle!

Lovely build up and diving head for England U21’s.

🔵 Creating 2v1’s in wide area
🔵 Early cross into 6 yard box with whip
🔵 Striker making near post run off the back of the defender (be a ghost - disappear then reappear)
🔵 desire to get on the end of the cross

Rewatching the highlights from the England game last night as watched the game on a train with patchy internet.

Absolutely love Hayward-Baylis’ celebration after getting his debut goal.

Absolutely what it’s all about

7)) Transitioning to senior football isn't just about adapting to a higher level—it's about evolving your approach to coaching to match the demands of the players.

Embrace the challenges and enjoy the growth that comes with coaching at the senior level. (7/7)

6) Keep the ball moving!
Another one that applies to all coaching but especially critical in senior football.
Get the ball moving and keep it moving as much as possible. Physically players will improve if nothing else. (6/7)

5) Help players find solutions rather than teach

Get your constraints and conditions right, get the players in and add context where required. Encourage critical thinking and autonomy on the pitch. To be honest this applies to all coaching really! (5/7)

4) Be prepared to be challenged. Especially the higher you go the more likely this is going to happen. Senior players will test your knowledge and authority. Embrace it as an opportunity to grow and establish mutual respect. (4/7)

3) Recognise that adult players learn differently

Adults learn differently than youth players. They bring their own experiences and perspectives. Tailor your style to meet their needs. (3/7)

2) Understand the level.

Something I wasn’t prepared for fully moving from U15’s to senior football was how quick the game is even. The intensity, physicality, and tactical demands are so much higher. Before going in, do your homework and adjust your approach accordingly. (2/7)
