Magnificent Century was amazing. Went down so many fun rabbit holes watching that one!
Try Kurt Seyit ve Sura if you get a chance (and can find it).

If any/all of the above suggestions actually manifest out of the upcoming boondoggle of an inquiry committee I’ll be shocked. Teachers have been expressing these issues for years and no one listens. So frustrating.

Stop forcing teachers to teach “collaborative” math. I have watched experienced staff for literal YEARS at this point express frustration about the way they’re requiring math be taught.

👆👆Look! I’ve just saved thousands of dollars by telling you exactly what the problem is. How to fix it? Sure, I’ll take a stab at that too! Take probability out of the elementary curriculum. Move several topics back upwards into intermediate/high school so kids have space to learn and practice.

This issue derailed my train of thought periodically for most of the day.
I’m shelving books—there’s Franklin.
I’m going festive displays—there’s Franklin’s Christmas Gift 🎁

Franklin’s Christmas Gift - Kids Can Press
In this Franklin Classic Storybook, Franklin can’t decide what to donate to his school’s Christmas toy drive. At first, all of his toys seem too special to give away, then nothing seems special enough...

I had no fewer than 8 students ask me (hopefully) if I thought school might be closed tomorrow.

You mean to say that when Other People email their elected representatives it doesn’t feed directly into a 🕳️ ?!
I am shocked and envious.

My own prom was student planned, off-site, and the only thing the school provided was a table in the cafeteria for ticket sales (which funded the event). I genuinely believed this was the standard practice provincially.
And I think it should be.

To be clear, my definitions are:
Graduation=school celebration of achievement, awards & diploma distribution with (perhaps) a tea/coffee social afterwards on site with staff, parent/families
Prom= fancy dress, dinner/dance which may also include an after party (students only)

If the Minister is going to insist that Durham region reinstate school-led prom, then do all school boards provincially need to provide this?
Is this going to be a funded expectation of the Ministry?

I had this impression because waaaaay back in the 1990s there were many Boards where this was the case. Boards in Ontario have been divested themselves of the liability and cost of “prom” for at least 3 decades.
