(Honestly, I’d probably pay you $20 for the privilege of using that watermark. #glowup)
jennalaib.bsky.social
Is there a discount if I left you put a “CHRIS NHO 4 MATH ED” watermark on everything?
jennalaib.bsky.social
Of course, Insha’Allah! Working on it now!

My time with my current employer has come to an end. I am grateful for what I have learned about myself personally & professionally during the last 3 years.

If you know any schools/districts looking for professional development, feel free to drop my name and encourage them to visit strongermath.com

I’d definitely add in the NCTM docs, like the 1989 standards/2000 revised standards. (There were also others like the ‘95 assessments doc.) I might also include “Adding It Up,” or maybe the CGI books. In more recent years, the CA revised frameworks sparked much larger conversations.

I feel like “conference proposal” is a genre independent from “important stuff about teaching.”

“If we want students to thrive in a data-rich world, they need opportunities to develop strong data habits: slowing down, thinking deeply, and constructing meaning,” @jennalaib.bsky.social writes.

“One powerful way to do this is through a routine called slow reveal graphs.” 📊

"Across contexts, cold call often created a culture of negativity, pulled time away from the main goal of the class, & didn’t do much to get kids paying attn." Read @dylanpkane.bsky.social on 4 alternatives to cold calling that "are underused, not too hard to learn, & less likely to backfire."

"Graphs & data visualizations are all around us—charting our steps, our election results, our favorite sports teams’ stats & trends ... If we want students to thrive in a data-rich world, they need opportunities to develop strong data habits: slowing down, thinking deeply & constructing meaning."

By revealing graphs piece by piece, teachers can build student curiosity and guide them to more effectively make sense of data! 📊

"The slow reveal graphs routine both honors the complexity of data visualizations & creates accessible entry points for every learner. Because revision is expected & careful observation is valued, students focus less on being 'right' or 'wrong' & more on making sense of the data together."

I love Slow Reveal Graphs! I do them with data about mathematics education, and my research findings. They work WAY better for adults as well. #ITeachMath Hooray for @jennalaib.bsky.social

Yes! 😍

I love watching people like Mona Chalabi and (the late) Hans Rosling tell stories with their version of slow reveals.

Avery!! I didn’t realize you’d left! ❤️‍🩹

A new paraprofessional asked me why middle schoolers can’t read clocks or deal with money. I named some culture shifts, but the culture shifts are feeling… really dramatic.
