I make things with my hands incessantly, mostly textile but not always. Geriatric highland dancer. Healthcare worker. Often ranting about settler colonialism.

In Highland Dance, the aboyne outfit is meant to resemble women's mid-18th century clothing, so I can't resist hand sewing a blouse in the method and style of an 18th century shift. This one is made from a bed sheet.

Current hand-sewing project - a riff on the 16th century shift/chemise, made with a thrifted mauve cotton bedsheet. Can we bring back the ruff??

Blackwork was common in this time for the collar, but I recently got a pleater, so smocking it is! And check out the neat rip-stop detail in silk.
