T.S. Eliot watching Cats: “They got it right. (Tear rolls down cheek) They got it exactly right.”
jenniferdeguzman.bsky.social
T.S. Eliot could have watched The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show.

Though, mercifully, he could not have watched Cats (2019, dir by Tom Hooper).

If my name were Taylor Swift I wouldn’t write a song playing on my name called “Elizabeth Taylor” about crying. I’d write a song playing on my name called “Jonathan Swift” about eating babies.

I’m sure Taylor Swift would be devastated to know that I’m not really digging her new album.

Stephen Miller: "Eventually elections don’t carry the day because violence beats votes… When we see a muscular response from the federal government, it’s because we’re not going to let violence beat votes."

Is he implying federal intervention determines political legitimacy, not ballots or courts?

Padilla: Do you believe government officials are obligated to follow court orders whether they agree with them or not?

Bondi: I wish you loved your state of California as much as you hate President Trump.

Padilla: I asked a simple yes or no question

I'm about to use "shawty evidence" the way people use "girl math."

"He turned his phone over when I sat down at the table. He's definitely cheating."

"That doesn't mean--"

"Shawty evidence!"
jenniferdeguzman.bsky.social
Just saw someone use the phrase “shawty evidence.”

Did they mean “shoddy”? Or is this a usage of “shawty” that I haven’t, as a square, encountered yet?
jenniferdeguzman.bsky.social
That’s exactly the kind of thing I was thinking it must be!

Don’t know what my brain did there

I’m trying to do edits on a graphic novel script I finished years ago, and I just can’t get back into the mindset that it’s a work in progress. I archived it in the “done” section of my brain, and now it won’t be recategorized.

Oh, more Araki original artwork! Plus bonus Jinjo Ito—from a new work about Captain Ahab of Moby Dick!
jenniferdeguzman.bsky.social
I just saw some of his original art at this show! There’s a video I took of some large scale paintings he did that are on display as well.

HIGHLY recommend the Art of Manga exhibit at the de Young. The art is gorgeous, of course, and the audio tour is excellent. It was a lot of fun. www.famsf.org/exhibitions/...

It was great! The whole show was amazing. Those big Hirohiko Araki paintings were mesmerizing!

Frank Miller is nearly 70 years old.
I’m talking about newer trends that affect young creators.

Also, the expectation that comics be printed on bright white, shiny paper is another barrier to entry. I miss black and white comics printed on 50# uncoated offset paper.

Here’s a little video of some large Hirohiko Araki paintings in the exhibit! Sorry about how jerky it is—I was dodging people.

1950s models were so amazing at these kinds of angular poses, like Suzy Parker

Heyyyyy I’m at the Art of Manga exhibit at The de Young Museum, and who do I hear on the audio tour but @iamdavidbrothers.com!
jenniferdeguzman.bsky.social
The expectation in the U.S. that comics be in color raises the barrier to entry for creators and also has been to the detriment of artists’ cultivation of black-and-white comics art technique.

Anyone have a particularly hot comic take?

Travel tip: If you want to visit San Francisco, early October is a lovely time for it. Just mind the temperature drop and fog at sunset! Bring a hoodie.
