Ooh, that could've been a really cool singleplayer mechanic, having a "splinter count" advance through certain events and tech, giving a chance for the faction to spawn taking a number of cities and units and giving the player a choice of which faction to continue as.
Not as good for MP though.

Very fair, personally I do enjoy 2 or 3 of them (hackers, syndicalists, vikings come to mind) and the expanded mechanics, but disliked the alien factions.

The problem with this is, the people trying to fund AGI are the same ones who benefit from the problems, so any AGI that tries to solve problems becomes an existential threat to those peoples status, so they tell us "The Robots will try to kill us all", not mentioning that we were never part of "us"

I say "funny", it's actually horrific that such plain racism is out on display & has been for several months now. But it's certainly good that these ghouls are made to feel as if their position as social architects atop tacky ivory towers is suddenly contingent on popular support.
