If I listen to and read nothing else in a day, I don't miss Heather Cox Richardson. She sources it all & provides historical context, where the US is now compared to throughout history in similar circumstances. This post from 4/1/25 needs to be heard. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

April 1st this year was a lot of things in this country. Historic layoffs through the department of Health & Human Services that impacted scientists and researchers in the FDA, CDC, and more. A historic 25-hour speech on the senate floor by Senator Corey Booker. There is more, see next share.

So now they are arresting people accused of no crimes who are lawful residents of the United States.

Wow.
This development is a horrifying and further escalation of the very topic I wrote about yesterday evening: The Trump administration’s move from governmental changes to individual attacks focused on political opponents. www.lawdork.com/p/trump-test...

This win is big. Holding this relief tonight. Democrats keep standing!! And can we get some sanity from anyone across the aisle at some point?
1. Today, Senate Democrats showed spine, and killed a national transgender sports ban bill via filibuster.

Not a SINGLE Democrat voted for cloture.

S. Baum writes about what happened today, including some of the speeches.

Senate Dems Show Spine, And National Sports Ban Bill Dies
The failed legislation reflects a wider effort to disallow trans women (or anyone suspected of being a trans woman) from women’s sports and spaces.

Today, please read this. And take action. As of Monday this could pass the Senate and head to the administration for signature.

For those unaware, in 1933, the first major Nazi book burning was of the first 30 years of research into trans and queer people, far before the concentration camps.

Now, Trump has digitally burned the government's research on the same.

This is an example of how we need to stand up and speak out. We will protect our kids and more school systems need to stand up and state this with clarity.
1. School systems across the United States are declaring they will not comply with Trump's anti-trans executive order.

MCPS, Maryland said they will fiercely protect their teacher sand students.

NEW: All students deserve to feel safe & welcomed in school — but Trump signed an executive order that would strip funding for schools that support LGBTQ+ students & teach an honest history of our nation.

This action is NOT implemented yet. We'll provide updates as we learn more: hrc.im/equalityhub

Just released memorandum from OPM:

Federal facilities will now have a bathroom ban for transgender people.

It will go into effect on the 31st.

It also has a slew of effects and puts into place the 1st anti-trans EO policies for every agency.

This will have a ton of impacts very quickly.

This has been and does impact everyone and is a frightening call back to many times in history.
So Trump's shutting down of the entire government's funding system for American projects is literally so he can go line by line and target transgender people and other minorities.

When we said transphobia affects cis people too, well... here you go.

Major news:

Donald Trump has just issued a trans military ban, with much of the details left to Hegseth.

It states that being trans is incompatible with "an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle"

I know many military trans people who have served admirably for decades.

Shameful.
