Cream-colored mallard is a bit small for a mallard so Muscovy does look particularly large beside her. He is quite large for a duck though.

I enjoy watching these little avian dinosaurs preen themselves. They're so meticulous. Sometimes I think about reading or hand-sewing out here, but I always end up watching the creatures instead.

Sometimes the geese all stand around me facing outward. I don't know what this means exactly, but I get the sense that they've accepted me in some way. Either that, or they're trying to trap me so that I'll provide them with more oats.

I think it's rather sweet that Muscovy duck and the cream-colored mallard have become quite close friends. They're two of the sweetest creatures who hang out here, and I'm happy they've found each other.

Now everyone's joyously preening around me, aside from Muscovy duck and cream-colored mallard, who are too busy napping side-by-side. Sometimes the ducks give me a look as if to say, "why aren't you preening, human," and I have to admit to them that I'm tragically featherless.

Muscovy duck has materialized magically at my side. The swan geese are shrieking like rabid pterodactyls. I came early enough to see the Canada geese (and Canada geese hybrids) descend from the not-so-gloomy gray sky.

They're setting up a farmers' market all around the ponds. The land is uneven, so all the stands and stalls and booths are set up at wonky angles. They're selling food, drinks, large gnarled sorcerer staffs, hats, various crafts.

I'm out on another short walk as unofficial town sorcerer. No town anywhere in the world has yet to hire me as official town sorcerer but that's OK. I do what I can with what I have. I've brought my bag of rolled oats, a bag of unsalted peanuts, chapstick, an asthma inhaler, a small ET figurine.

Far from comprehensive, the list does not include the thousands still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings, as well as the war’s many indirect victims As of the end of July there were 18,457 children named on the long official list of Palestinian victims of Israel’s war in Gaza. Over almost two years, that is equivalent to bombs, bullets and shells killing a boy or girl every hour of every day. In reality the deaths are not spaced out so evenly.
