Who wants to play out the horrors of urban traffic engineering and planning gone wrong?

You may have come across some pictures, but the counterflow bike lanes on University used to be counterflow bus lanes. They were converted to bike lanes in the 60s after crash issues.

Don't forget about the Mendota Street filter, which then is served by one of the most aggressive TSP operations in the city when it rejoin East Washington.

One of the most shocking things I realized when I started as a traffic engineer was how often our traffic signals and street light poles are knocked down by drivers. Monday is known as knock down day at our shop, where they fix the weekend knockdowns.

^ thats obviously sarcasm. Ive never seen such a bad policy proposal
jerryschippa.bsky.social
Yeah, but we could save so much money (for those lawsuits!).

ADA violation aside...could you imagine a sidewalk network that requires pedestrian crossings at EVERY intersection. What a joke!
jerryschippa.bsky.social
Let's say a city was to propose the following changes to their sidewalk policy.

- Reduce from 5' to 3' wide
- one side
- alternating which side of the street that one side is on

You'd say....

But Is Susan Collins concerned?

I've never really looked at this part of the city...it's like you can watch the engineer for the site plan paint themselves into a corner with the 'car flow' logic here.

Jamie is highly qualified to build off Metro's success as we continue to improve our public transportation network and work with local partners and neighboring communities to expand service. I’m excited to have her on board.

I like this approach of metering traffic into a designated area. If you try to chase the queue you likely will end up increasing cycle lengths excessively and may have other downstream effects on cross street coordination and queue management.
