It is hard not to conclude that this administration's current trajectory and velocity, if left unchecked by Congress and the Federal Judiciary, will in four years take us to a place that none of us recognize as a constitutional republic governed by the rule of law.

4/4 (Yes, I know I added the last one). In the meanwhile, Trump has made clear to the rest of the world that the U.S. is not an honest broker, that we do not keep our promises. This will haunt us for a generation.

3/4 Trump then declares emergency and imposes tariffs in order to "fix" a problem that was already being fixed. Mexico and Canada agree to do some bullshit that won't do anything. Trump will bask in Fox news glory for fixing a problem that was already being fixed when he took office.

2/3 During the campaign, and in his inauguration speech, Trump grossly exaggerated the extent of the opioid crisis, saying the drug death amounted to 300000 Americans per year. Trump fails to acknowledge publicly that the crisis was coming under control.

1/3 Under the Biden administration, overdoes deaths fell by 21% in 2024. Fentanyl crossing from Mexico was reduced by 20% or so. The supply of precursor chemicals going to Mexico from China had been significantly restricted. Biden's policies to address the opioid crisis were working.

I'm pretty sure that President Trump just had the White House Office of Trinkets make for him a Magic Eight Ball of Blame. When there is a crisis he shakes it and looks at the window to find the cause among four choices: (1) DEI, (2) Obama, (3) Immigrants, and (4) the Fake News Media.
