Managed to steal an hour of reading my book in the woods with the hound today. The autumn colours and moody skies are phenomenal at the moment 💚🧡💛🩵 #woodland #walkies

As a first gen student who self funded her PhD whilst working, it's moments like these that hit home how far I've come. I'm reading a chapter for a reading group on paid time. I'm not fitting it in on the commute to my day job. I'm reading it as my job. Wow! #AcademicSky #FirstGen #LittleThings

And that's it from me in York for another month. Next time I'll be here will be for the Theoretical Archaeology Group Annual Meeting where I'll be presenting my research on the colonial and patriarchal heritage value of #civetcoffee. See you in December! #TAG

Yesterday I chaired a seminar for @hgcresearchcentre.bsky.social at Kings Manor @york.ac.uk delivered by my lovely colleague Jafet Quintero about his edited book 'Tourism, heritage and commodification of non-human animals: a posthumanist reflection.' Great discussions were had by all!

This week I delivered several samples of pre-digested coffee beans to the lab for microbial, chemical and fatty acid testing. This will feed into the #Humancoffee project - an art-science problematization of #civetcoffee and #naturecommodification Watch this space! 👀

I've never been more excited to sit in a car park. Cabin fever has been setting in with the post-op recovery. Today I got to read a chapter in the car whilst my partner walked the dog after my doctors apt. So nice to see autumn shades! #AcademicSky #Reading #Recovery

Finally, after 14 months of chronic pain and mobility issues I've had the metal removed ❤️‍🩹 1 day post surgery and I'm already in less pain than before the op. #DogStrike #Trauma #ThanksNHS

I had the best time at the Asia for Animals Conference 2025 this past week. I spoke about #civetcoffee and the work of #TheCivetProjectFoundation to work with large tourism providers to stop the promotion and sale of civet coffee tours. #kopiluwak #civets #conservation #animalwelfare

Yesterday we had a VIP guest in the office. Respect for her presence must be paid with head scratches. #CatsofAcademia

Yesterday I met an Elephant hawk moth caterpillar. I was immediately taken back to my lectures on Batesian mimicry- look at those magnificent "eyes"! #SussexWalks #NatureSky

Just found #CatsofAcademia and now must, naturally, introduce Poe- my office manager. She is particularly concerned with staff wellbeing. She will stop my screen use by walking in front of my screen every hour and onto my keyboard if I haven't stood up and walked around in a while. 10/10 recommend.

It's official! I am over the moon to start my postdoc at @york.ac.uk as part of the Anthropocene Encounters project. My focus: multispecies heritage with civets as the species entry point (of course). Who else should I be connecting with here? #heritage #multispecies www.york.ac.uk/archaeology/...

Really enjoying my latest read- Theory of Water by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. Her writing is thoughtful and poignant and is helping me better consider the capital roots of my cultural upbringing and why I've always felt out of place within it. Highly recommend. #reading #AcademicSky #Decolonise

Revisiting some of my favourite multisited #multispecies ethnographies, this time for inspiration in narrative non-fiction. What a joy to return to this one by Kathryn Gillespie! #reading

The last event of the civet season was a lovely CPD delivery with the team at 'Population Matters'. I led a one day program all about Distant Nature Encounters in the Anthropocene. And, of course, civets were the species entry point. #multispecies #workshop #MTHjustice #academicsky

I recently gave a seminar for Oxford Brookes PhD and MSc students (conservation, biosciences and anthropology courses) about my research into human-civet relations. It was brilliant and I loved revisiting my old haunts from my decade-ago (!) MSc days. #Oxford #Seminar #Lecturer

A great time was had by all at the Socio-Oceanography Conference 2025. I was there to bring the more-than-human (MTH) perspective to a transdisciplinary exploration of coastal speculative futures. #morethanhuman #multispecies #transdisciplinary

Apparently it was valentine's day recently. We don't do valentine's. We do, however, go on little family outings to the town where we met. It's pretty great 🥰 #family
