It’s a respect thing, right? Mette Frederiksen and Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Naaja Nathanielsen are not difficult names to say. And you have pronunciation guides for a reason. Be brave.

When we’re consuming media we need to think: does this honour the people involved? Or does it sensationalise things further? Does what being presented as news make steps towards positive change or polarisation?

All that to say, we are in an attention economy, and the deluge of content makes creators and companies money when we spend time engaging with it.

Have been back in Australia less than 24 hours and the intensity of the coverage has been a bit wild. The YouTube algorithm is now serving me loads of Bondi content in shorts. Newspapers are still having pages of coverage that is mostly opinion than factual.

The YouTube algorithm was surfacing Bondi content but from a range of international sources. Crucially, it wasn’t auto serving me content through shorts.

Overseas, I had a lot more control over what I read and saw of the coverage. I mostly read ABC news and The Guardian. Importantly, I could step away from the coverage when it became too much or repetitive.
