These are not easy design problems to solve, but I think we have to start trying new things. It's a bit frustrating to see things like the Center for Human Technology that is founded by folks who invented these design patterns talk about the harms but not put forward good alternatives.

I've tried adding pagination in frequency, but it felt clunky, so I put back the infinite feed and added a separate "zen mode" view so that you could toggle back and forth between the familiar infinite feed and one that gave you more information and control over how you browsed recent posts.

@tmcw optimize for virality first, then optimize for searchability when the interest dies down. The second title is definitely a more accurate describieron than the first.
