I love the idea that the Black Panthers could lead the training of new organizations using the same tactics to intimidate all the ICE/gestapo thugs. It gives me hope that so many people are resisting. These neo Nazis can't hold on to power if too many people oppose them.

For reference, I also read his Singularity is nearer book, and I've listened to a lot of his speeches. He does seem fairly accurate about his tech predictions, and I think he will be close, maybe off by 1-5 years here and there. Either way, this stuff is only a few decades from now.

Will any of that happen? Idk. That said, if anything makes it happen it's technology, but we still need social and political changes that prevent it from all being owned by only a few. Can we make that happen? Idk. I'm hopeful, though, even if only to get me through the day.

The promise of a transhuman future: to defeat death or to have indefinite lifespan, to have fully customizable bodies that can fulfill so many dreams of self determination, and to have virtual reality paradise, and basic needs guaranteed in real life? That all sounds lovely.

Kurzweil does seem to be a well meaning technologist, at least that is how he presents. I'm also weary about whether everything will be utopian. That said, I have to be optimistic that it will all be sorted out for the better. It keeps me sane.
