Happened to me with both pregnancies. The second time I begged them not to discharge me from the hospital and they sent me home anyway, only for me to be back within 12 hours. Our maternal care system is fucked, in the hospital and outside it. There's zero continuity from pre- to post-birth.

This is a good point. I developed post-delivery preeclampsia after being discharged. Pregnancy, birth, and post birth are all risky! (THIS IS ONE REASON WHY WE SHOULD NOT FORCE THEM ON ANYONE.)

Having a midwife in this situation is super important - and presumably she had appropriate prenatal care and was low risk. The thing about a good midwife is that they know when to call the ambulance.
