And when a nomad comes in and their income tax is all witheld in the country of origin, I don't blame countries for adding taxes and fees to the nomad visa - is a way for them to protect the system in place to be able to continue to support locals

The reason why cost of living might be low is because there is often subsidies on things like energy, transportation, water treatment, and healthcare, which many countries offer to citizens and tourists alike - which I know as travelers you have experienced. Income taxes are key to fund those

Let me explain. In the US, it is common to label "government benefits" as payments one gets from the government, for either housing, or food, or healthcare. But in many other countries (I know more about my home, Brazil) the taxes are what make life work there - so yes, you benefit by just living
