This is incredible. Montgomery County just passed a plan that will up zone SFH areas along University Blvd. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before in an established post-war suburban area. This should be done along any major bus routes within and around the beltway!

how has it taken us more than *10*... TEN years to plan, not even build, PLAN BART on Route 7?!?!?

Just learned that Suica & Pasmo are managed by JR east and Tokyo metro, respectively. Thinking about something similar could've happened if Metra say adopted the farecards from ME system wide. Both the Chicago Card and Metra electric tickets could be in use simultaneously. Fun alternative history...

There's a full sized dataset for WMATA station ridership from the system opening to 2017. (unfortunately the ridership portal is down so I couldn't get to 2025. Two graphs showing the ridership and yoy percent change

While the discussions of new revenues continues in Springfield, the CTA is still unreliable, and dropping trips. I thought our headcount for operators was finally back to 2019 levels as well?

If the 1964 general plan for Montgomery & PG counties had been fully followed, we'd have the beautiful suburban communities of Danville & Thrift to live in (and potentially the Rosecroft Raceway alignment of the Metro)

Cool to see that some of their thinking also involved potential for Joint Developments, which WMATA had been heavily pursuing at the time.

Riding a Nova bus on a route that runs every 10 minutes, makes me feel like I’m in Canada. It’s the little things y’know

What Transit Really Makes Suburbs Grow?
Oak Park & Evanston are two of the most developed suburbs in the Chicago region, with high rises clustered around the downtown.

PACE, the suburban operator of buses in Chicago, has a budget of ~$333 million. Compared to Brampton, ON (A suburban municipality of the GTHA) has a budget of ~$233 million. But the operating subsidy for PACE is $293 million, Brampton's is only $91 million.

I just saw two guys picking trash off the CTA lines. Does the agency not have any Vacuum trains? Those would be so much better and more efficient than guys walking the tracks picking up waste.
