This was incorrect, apologies to all water birds who often get dismissed mentally by my new birding brain as “probably a duck” cos upon going over yesterdays footage (videoing is a big part of how I’m learning!) I now realise I can also add

- Eurasian coot
- Australasian grebe

… to my life list 🥰

Holiday update: in the last 24 hours I’ve added FIVE BIRDS to my life list, what a bad bitch

Only realised it later and was like, wait what the HELL???

I’m so out of whack due to living in the regions and never getting cabs anymore, and when I’m visiting big cities I’m usually getting Ubers but I needed to leap into the nearest vehicle after ducking out of arrivals.

Never again, cabs!
jessmcguire.bsky.social
A really nice cab driver picked me up from the airport for a relatively short drive to Pitt St. I was late to an appointment, so he hurried me out the cab and grabbed my bags for me and offered the EFTPOS machine to tap and go… and I stupidly didn’t check.

$117.

Airport taxis are so bad I now have a pathological fear of getting one
On one occasion, I felt so intimidated by a driver I was fearful the whole way home. What had I done? I’d questioned the route he was taking.

These are definitely the files everybody wanted to see released

President Trump called on the federal government on Friday to unseal all remaining classified files on the aviator Amelia Earhart and her disappearance nearly 90 years ago, which is still shrouded in mystery and wild conjecture. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/26/u...

What’s a reasonable taxi fee from Sydney Airport to approx Town Hall d’ya reckon?

Real proud to have collaborated with my ol’ ABC Western Plains colleague Zack Marlan on this. These kinds of stories are so important to tell!

And a massive shout out to all my regional ABC colleagues who work SO HARD on the ground every single day keeping their local communities informed.

It wasn’t long into my conversation with this outback nurse for me to realise - there’s something really special happening here.

A First Nations-led program achieving real results for communities dealing with a diabetes problem in a town with limited resources? Yes!

Outback nurse tackles diabetes with cans, rocks, bush tucker and chat
When Rishoniy Caine arrived in a remote NSW community with one general store and no gym, she knew fixing its diabetes problem would need a different approach to what had already failed the locals.

NEW: No, Charlie Kirk was not practicing politics the right way. That's what Ezra Klein said. We can condemn this heinous assassination but also recognize that with his 2020 election denialism and extremist rhetoric, Kirk built his movement with falsehoods and in a wrong and divisive manner.
No, Charlie Kirk was not practicing politics the right way
His assassination deserves full condemnation; his full impact should not be sidestepped.

I had no idea we’d had such a history of trouble with the leading scientific researchers from those countries.

Also, frankly, you’d think in 2025 we’d be pretty keen for the best minds in the world when it comes to zoonotic diseases to have opportunities to exchange information and knowledge.

I can’t believe I’m reading this right. Our immigration minister refused visas to international researchers coming to attend a conference on the basis of “social cohesion” and they happen to hail from “Kenya, Uganda, India, Pakistan and Georgia”?

Was glad to be able to discuss this with Senator Pocock on Wednesday afternoon on ABC NSW - and the feedback from listeners seemed to indicate there are a lot of people who’d like to see this reform too.

Living by a popular fishing spot, I cannot tell you how often I am cleaning up fishing line, hooks, lures, AND cigarette butts all discarded carelessly by anglers. It makes me SO MAD!

Genuinely do not understand how so called outdoorsy people can give so little care to the environment they’re in.

imagine fleeing the Vietnam War and in your arms you're carrying a baby who will one day grow up to correct the US Secretary of Defense on his jeans. like bringing a football into the end zone

it's crazy that i wake up every day and think "i can't possibly have anything else to say on twitter" and then the US Department of Defense will be like "Our Secretary of Defense has great jeans ☺️"

I disagree. I will tell you what's wrong with his jeans. 🧵
The DoD Rapid Response team on Twitter writes: "The Secretary of Defense has great jeans." The attached photo shows Sec. Pete Hegseth wearing a blue sport coat, white button-up shirt, blue jeans, and a big buckle Western belt.

The year is 2066. I am 85 years old. I wake up, and gingerly reach for my iPhone 58, the font on my waiting notifications large enough for my ailing eyes to make out the text…

“New episode of Mushroom Case Daily just dropped”

I gasp, splutter, then die. The podcast has outlived me.

MEAA supports the right to protest and freedom of expression. We stand up for press freedom across the world, including the almost 200 journalists that have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 — the fact that international media has been blockaded from entering Gaza is a press freedom crisis.

I look forward to the next strongly worded statement issued by world leaders, they seem to be working well.
