This phase lasts 2 rounds, and if the players don’t find a way to break their fall in time they will surely die.

In the final phase they’re battling in the volcanic basin and the boss has attacks from both phases. It also adds in environmental challenge from the new arena (5/5)

Normally this is about where the fight ends, but since in this scenario she’s the last one they’re fighting, she then destroys the entire arena, causing the party to start falling into the magma basin of the volcano as she flies after them. (4/?)

In the first phase, she’s fighting them like a berserker barbarian with a massive axe at the summit of Tar Mountain, and in the second phase she transforms into a more draconic form with extra strengths and actions. (3/?)

One of my favourite examples (coming up) is a set of bosses that which scale in difficulty as the players kill the other one, along with the build up sections. Of those, one of them is against the Matriarch of the sunlit dragons, and Champion of the resident god of Dragons and the Apocalypse (2/4)

This is the sort of stuff I love doing, every single one of my bosses in D&D has at least 2 phases, if not more. (1/4)
