Had the absolute pleasure of mounting and sampling some greater argentine (Argentina silus) otoliths today - look how beautiful they are! And so easy to age!

These specimens were dissected at sea around 1AM, after a full-day migraine - gratifying to have them be nice samples!

A really nice otolith (an ear stone taken from a fish) - it has very visible growth rings and is shaped like a sort of wonky leaf.

A greater argentine (Argentina silus) - it is a silvery fish with a slight greenish gold iridescent on the dorsal side. The eyes are HUGE!

Something some of you may not know is that every October I try and watch 31 horror films in 31 days #31For31

Kicked it off last night with Peter Jackson’s glooorious splatterfest Dead Alive (1991), a film that had me grinning from ear to ear for about half an hour straight. What a treat!

The poster for the horror comedy Dead Alive - a lady is wide eyed and comically stretching her lips out in a rectangle, exposing a spooky skull face in her mouth! (Unfortunately it kinda looks like a famous internet shock image lol)

Seeing this 5x5 a couple months ago made me get back into them. Just back from seeing them in London, they’re so good!!
