It was an issue because the most common trans in the 12' to 18' was a duel clutch and it was VERY poorly designed, if you tried to granny it, you would destroy the clutches like riding the clutch in a true manual. Just bad.

I used to be a Ford service advisor and I'm guessing the transmission went wonky. 13' to 18' focus and 13' to 19' fiesta with the dual clutch was trash. Only good focus and fiestas were the ST models (manual), the very base with the 5 speed manuals, and the ones with the 1.0L ecoboost (normal trans)
