Saw this non native praying mantis at the park eating a native bee the sweat bee. Sweat bees are a gorgeous iridescent bee native in my part of WA. Absolutely my favorite flavor of bees.
Remember to say hi to your local bugs even the invasive ones you never know what you might see next.

Update on my purple tomatoes btw haven't posted about them in a while, the flowers are blooming and tomatoes are nice and green. Can't wait to taste these once they are ripe. It's been hot as hell the past couple weeks so I've been doing lots of watering.

I lied I adjusted more of the face lol she needed more highlights and her red lips. I also warmed up some of the colors of the puppet throughout, especially the gold.

Updated pic of my oil painting of an Indonesian puppet. I added more highlight and shadow throughout the puppet. Adding in the red lips seen on the puppet as well as adding more highlights/contour to the white face. I darkened the background red beneath the painting in the painting as well as solidified more of the picture frame of said painting. Previous picture of oil painting progress. I added in the black line details of the face of the puppet along with fleshing out the details of the bead work and defining the embellishments of the headdress. I also worked in the highlights and shadows of the oil painting on the wall behind the puppet, the painting being Van Gogh's giant peacock moth oil painting.

Some of the birds feet don't even have the same amount of toes on each of them at least put in the effort to Photoshop it instead of just fucking copy pasting AI slop for your branding.

Made progress in the background for this painting. I added Van Gogh's painting of a giant peacock moth as my painting within a painting. The colors of Van Gogh's painting fulfilled the balance of contrast and compliment that I was searching for when looking for.

Still deciding what painting I want to paint on the wall in the background but I do want to lean into a bluer palette for it so I'm going to look at some more paintings today. Also readjusted the chin and solidified more parts of the puppet.

Indonesian puppet oil painting continued. This time I solidified more of its form and added more details to its adornments like the skirt, shirt and headdress. Adding in base layers of shading and a little beadwork. Also added a nice complementary periwinkle blue layer of a framed painting on the background wall that goes well with the reds in the skirt and background. Going to paint a painting onto it but haven't decided what one to choose. Previous progress photo of Indonesian puppet oil painting. Unfilled in paint on the clothing and background. Drawing of the Indonesian puppet that I have been creating an oil painting of. Black and White using black and blue ink pens, plus sharpie to fill in the bigger spaces that need blacked out. Sticky note doodles of the puppet I'm doing a painting of. Green sticky notes various ways to block out shading and drawing to get a basic idea of how I want to approach the shape and composition of the puppet.

Worked on the skirt part and adjusted the face
Bonus photo of my paint palette which is currently a small square canvas.
Unfinished oil painting of an Indonesian puppet that I got at a yard sale. This shows that progress has been made in painting the details of the skirt and reshaping of the puppets white painted face. The previous progress photo showing unworked skirt and background etc mostly just the base layer of paint when the photo was taken Paint palette on a small square canvas board various colors of paint piled a chaotic mess of fresh and old paint globbed across the pallet. I love to run my fingers over it when it's fully dried and poking at the half dried paint piles where you can feel the centers are still fresh and ready to be used under the surface. I find it nice to use canvas as a pallet so I can go back and use previous paint mixtures as reference or see how certain colors look next to one another and seeing the past paintings I've done in the abstract colorful globs on the canvas palette. WIP base layers so far + the reference photo. I've had this Indonesian puppet on my shelf for a while that I've been wanting to paint.
Oil painting, base layers so far not detailed yet background color is a nice magenta. I've been playing around with different base background colors different reds, pinks, yellows etc. and how they affect the layers and colors placed on top. Picture reference for painting of my Indonesian puppet, it's beautifully adorned with gold and colorful sequins perfect subject to be painted.
