it's also ignoring that for the past 50 years, and especially the past 30 years alone, the Republican Party have been working systematically to dismantle ANY protections we have. so protesting is a fucking HUGE RISK. WAY MORE OF ONE than a European might experience.

when your capitol is a 2 hour drive away from any side of your country's borders i need you to shut up. some states, driving 2 hours just means you are in the middle of NOWHERE. organizing is a HUGE logistical nightmare in this way

missing from this info: the fact that narratives of the 19th century were frequently published serially and paid by the word which resulted in a lot of words in sentences (looking at Dickens here) vs what is now traditional publishing because it's paid by expectations of total sales.
