In North Carolina statements like this are usually followed by the question “you’re not from around here, are ya?”. This said with a heavy southern accent—it’s normal for all kinds of folk here to pray about literally everything and talk about it. It’s more abnormal not to—don’t mean your backwards.

I grew up with 2, both teachers. However, they also were children of the depression and WW2 and took a longer view of history. I think both would be horrified by this—my mom taught what was referred to as “special needs”. She had seen what can happen when some kids are ignored and warehoused.
