I had that very specific late-century Florida childhood every middle grade author wishes they’d had

also, if i ever complain ever ever about being tired <at ALL> on here, pls remind me to check the barometric pressure
I was wondering, so i looked last night at NWS data and highs of 40°F and lows of 27°F are what PGH usually gets for the first 2 weeks of Dec, not highs of 29°F and lows of 13°F!

the connection between listening less to music and more to audiobooks is that i actually like and often _need_ silence stretches b/c of daily sensory overload, so my active listening is used for audiobooks)

after ten years, they were _finally_ starting to be able to handle non-highway San Francisco roads safely when i left

and while SF has some twisty roads, it’s hella straight compared to pittsburgh

they are def not ready for the snow-covered version this, right out of the gate

right? i only found them as a young adult, and they quickly became comfort re-reads, but i would have been _obsessed_ with them as a kid.

they were less available when i last bought a vehicle (2009) and i lived in Florida, so they weren’t on my radar at all 😂

but now? omgggggg so great

constantly worry about this

so much of my vocab is odd, old-timey, & was acquired at such an early age from reading so many old books that they’ve been in my lexicon since i was 4. always re-assessing, but usually 3 nanoseconds _after_ using a word in a post or out loud, never _before_, gdi.

ugh, that sucks. hope you find one you like! i’m going honda or suburu for my next one, because i want a car that will not need anything but maintenance, tires, and inspections for at least the next 5 years
December 3, 2025 at 2:13 AM
i’ve only ever bought my cars when i lived in florida, so the concept was always a little foreign to me. i totallllllyyyy get it now!

yeah, i didn’t even need the heater! i wonder if there’s any environmental benefit, even tiny, to staying warm this way instead of depending on the heat. i would think so?
December 3, 2025 at 2:06 AM
i’m thinking about getting a used Subaru Crosstrek as next car & they have them. i don’t want a new car, but mine is 17 y/o and becoming a money pit that i can’t rely on. So i’m now “actively looking”
December 3, 2025 at 2:03 AM
like, i didn’t even turn the heat on in the car. just the heated seat. and it was enough!
December 3, 2025 at 2:01 AM
to be clear, i don’t want to need a vehicle at all, tbh. but heated seats are a pretty spectacular invention
