I couldn’t let 2025 go without one last addition to my “books to restart civilization”.

Here’s to 2026, and my best wishes that everyone finds The(ir) Way.

AI didn’t start with LISP or Neural Networks, it started as soon as we uttered the first word, drew the first symbol, built the first tool, and planted the first seed.

Quite interesting and tremendous foresight coming straight from 1996.

Cheerio from a simple descendant of Virginia Company stock, partnered with Miles Standish (bluf; 'how can I not try to fix our shit' )

I had a theory in 2016, later finding it also predicted by RAND /NETWAR 1996 for U.S. Defense Intel - I can validate it www.rand.org/pubs/monogra...
The Advent Of Netwar
This report examines how netwar, due to the evolution of societies according to a framework presented by the authors, may be the dominant mode of societal conflict in the 21st century.

Renowned data scientist @alex-pentland.bsky.social’s new book "Shared Wisdom" is a hopeful treatise on how AI can help to advance, not harm, the human condition. Listen to him on @middayonwypr.bsky.social:
'Shared Wisdom': A top AI expert considers how the potent tech can help us heal our polarized world
Author Alex "Sandy" Pentland offers a compelling counter to popular foreboding about AI's impact on human civilization: using AI, he writes, we can build more dynamic, open societies.

Being neutral doesn’t mean standing still. It means acknowledging you have to acquire as much knowledge/experience/collaborate in order to move towards your goal while avoiding breaking everything (including yourself) along the way i.e. alignment.

And you can’t get there by standing still.

I believe the word is “metabolizing”. The waste product is energy cost hikes, power plants, and space data centres.
Our language around #AI ought to employ a digestive, rather than cognitive, metaphor according to which models *ingest* and *regurgitate* data, rather than ‘learning’ and ‘thinking’.

@nonzerosumjames.bsky.social had a ⚡️👀 at your page some days ago and it piqued my interest, Game Theory is a tier S perspective that I haven’t integrated into my research yet, so I look forward to using your content to aid in this exploration! Hope you don’t mind the occasional long form comment 😅
