I think it will become clear that both things are connected - the same addictive social media reality distortion machine that enabled the authorial takeover also disconnected people's perception of the economy from reality and then only amplified misery, driving these numbers though the floor.

Lithium batteries let us do all kinds of cool things and this is one of them. Affordable, easy, and significantly safer than jumping a car with another car.

These people are collateral damage in the American culture wars because they speak English and use the Internet. My co-worker's relatives back home in Calgary all like Trump and want him to rule Alberta as a king. I assume it is because they watch Youtube all day.

Then say democrats “surged agents to the border” and let attrition take its course.
February 7, 2026 at 8:56 PM
This could be done without “abolishing” border patrol - change the border patrol zone to within 25 miles of the southern border only, geofence their work vehicles in that zone, and tell them to live in tent cities doing foot patrols and eating MREs three meals a day “until permanent bases are built”

It’s just not geometrically possible for everyone to live in that kind of neighborhood who wants to.
February 5, 2026 at 2:22 AM
it seems like the highest preference is to live in the streetcar suburb outside the city center where there are walkable amenities and all the benefits of the city but single family homes with large lots. Outside gated communities for the ultra-rich that’s where prices seem to be the highest.

I am about five years too old for this, fortunately. In my friend group we have only destroyed their lives the normal way - booze & strippers.

We keep getting told Medicare for all isn’t possible because too many people like their company provided insurance which provides generally superior care but I can’t see this system lasting into the mid 2030’s.
February 4, 2026 at 3:46 PM
Also anecdotal: I just got promoted into a role where I can see the company’s health insurance costs for the past 10 years and I went from being annoyed our coverage was getting worse over time to “holy shit this will bankrupt us if this trend keeps going”

There’s a scary bug where RAW photos can be undeleted for 90 days after being “permanently” deleted if you upload a JPEG of the same image, which means they are hanging on to deleted media on iCloud. You can find posts of people complaining about these bugs from 5-8 years ago.

Buying a Mac has ended any notion I had that Apple is good at software. I got it to run Lightroom (which it does great! the hardware is incredible) and integrate desktop Photos with my phone. There are entire features in desktop Photos that don’t work.

It hits close to home as my dad’s been an internet politics guy since 1988 and he got blown off as ”an alarmist” for years yet here we are in 2026 and every bad effect that he was worried about with respect to the GOP destroying political norms in pursuit of power in the 90’s and 00’s has come true.
February 3, 2026 at 1:45 AM
There were plenty of people at the time who told the GOP that creating a propaganda apparatus untethered from reality was a bad idea. They were called alarmists then. 30 years later the inmates are running the asylum and the Cheneys are voting for Kamala Harris. Imagine telling someone that in 1995.
February 3, 2026 at 1:42 AM
I don’t think these people are competent enough to pull it off again but I do think they are going to try and am worried we don’t have anyone around for the Pelosi-McConnell-Miley counter coup this time.
February 2, 2026 at 3:41 PM
The GOP institutionalists all quit after it was obvious how badly Trump lost, but then Trump decided to run the plan anyway with the insane core of people he has in charge of things now. There was less security at the capitol than anyone expected and that’s hoe we got Jan 6.
February 2, 2026 at 3:37 PM
I am fairly convinced that Jan 6 was a playbook developed by Barr et all based on a 2000 scenario that was designed to work if the election came down to a few thousand votes in a single state - have the state SoS cast doubt on the results, stop the count, have Congress intervene backed by a protest.

There is DOJ research showing fatigued officers are more likely to be involved in shootings.
February 1, 2026 at 3:01 AM
The other side of this is that there are absolutely cops out there working 10-12 hour shifts who then go and work more hours as off-duty security for extra pay. We wouldn't allow someone to fly a plane or even drive a truck that tired, but we allow police to work fatigued.

It amuses me that so many people thought they were nazis they got fed up and did a song with the lyrics “my heart beats to the left” that was adapted from a Bertold Brecht KPD marching song and they still get accused of being far right.

But apparently this is in Castle Rock which well, lol.
January 28, 2026 at 5:39 AM
Worth noting that Douglas County is bluing as republican support collapses in the southern suburbs of Denver - it was actually only 52/45 in 2024.

like, I really wasn’t planning on calling him that but thanks for the tip, I guess.

I got introduced to this one when my landlord’s methhead handyman hired a landscaper he had been in jail with and was very concerned about warning me not to call him a Mexican because he was Salvadorian and volatile.

How does someone get away with failing to appear for a bank robbery case and then not get caught for four years?
