Born into the puzzle
We are blessed
with a childhood
to find our contours
with an adulthood
to find how we fit with others
and perhaps now
we will rise above
to see
the pattern that emerged.

A prayer poem...

Ask the “saint”
“Where is your true home?”
maybe
he will look to Heaven.

Ask the “sinner”
“Where is your true home?”
maybe
he will look to Hell.

Ask me
“Where is your true home?”
definitely
I will look to You.

A poem...

Our life
can be too big
for its container.

Our soul’s light
can be too bright
for our own eyes.

Our hearts
scan soar
where words
cannot reach.

We cut life
into little pieces
to make it fit
make it bearable.

the dog takes the lead
but then he betrays himself
looking at his master

lips flutter
without meaning
the wings
of a dying bird
prayer is broken
without truth

In the single tear
that lingers
by my eye
the world is distorted

my own image looks smaller
my own pain looks bigger

I wish my Jewish brothers and sisters a peaceful Shabbat. A new month, a new chance to rewrite our story, rewrite ourselves, rewrite the world.

I wish my Muslim brothers and sisters a blessed Jumu'ah. A new month and Ramadan is close, prepare, prepare, prepare, not just recipes for the table but recipes for the soul.

He said:
Trust me.
She said:
Trust ME.
He said:
Don’t be afraid.
She said,
Don’t YOU be afraid.
He said:
YOU first!
She said:
YOU first!
Omniscient Narrator:
Not all of love’s battles
are won or lost.
Love is in the struggle.

A love poem…
Two boxes
full of broken pieces
held together
with tears and grit
sometimes side by side
sometimes shaken together
Two boxes
full of broken pieces
One love story.
