Writing a memoir about life with an old dog. Sketching animals whenever I can.
Playing with domesticated Chincoteague Ponies today, love their muzzles, especially the foal on the left...sooo soft!

The wild ponies of Assateague Island have created a whole economy on Chincoteague Island. Many pros, but I see the cons also.

Yes, why do we spend so much more on our pets, and care more about them, than Nature or our farm animals?

I love the how the sky changes constantly on Assateague Island. So dynamic, yet always beautiful.

I saw my first Oystercatcher of the upcoming breeding season the other day on Assateague Island. Just love them!

Unfortunately, bad news for our East Coast estuaries and major bays. In general, Atlantic Coast waters are warming faster than the global average, and sea level rise is also faster along the Atlantic Coast. Reality, in real data, not MAGA snark and wishful thinking.

Heading out to sketch some wild horses...not in Montana, but on Assateague Island National Seashore. Love this song!

While I was photographing this dog for a portrait commission, he decided it was the perfect time to bask in the late winter warmth of the sun. I put down my camera and decided to do the same!

It snowed last night, bringing back memories of my old boy Zack. He's an angel now, but whenever it snows I think of him. He just loved the white stuff!

Snowy Chincoteague Ponies! I took this pic yesterday, but sadly the snow is all gone today. Foals born last spring on Assateague Island, wintering on Chincoteague Island, then will be released back into the wilds of Assateague in a few months.

Cimba was a big naughty boy last night, waking me up 3 times to play with him and his new squeaky cricket toy he got yesterday!

Climate change is affecting everything, even dogs.
How a warming climate is part of a shift in sled dog genetics
While some changes in mushing come from development in the sport, others have been forced by a changing climate. One part of the story is told in the DNA of the dogs themselves.

I really like the illustrations in this children's picture book; they match the book's Paris setting with their Fauvist feel.

A while back I did a communication with Cimba and he asked me to read to him, so now I do. Both of us liked this memoir "Making Rounds with Oscar" about an unusual cat who knew when geriatric patients were close to death.
