It's not just Trump who is thoroughly ignorant about American popular culture and the arts, as Johnson's pandering comments prove. This is as soulless, spiritless administration as we've ever seen in Washington.

I loved Jonny Greenwood's score for "One Battles After Another," but every now and then, as a Radiohead fan, I could identify when he was playing an instrument, particularly piano or guitar. I'd love to hear if other Radiohead fans were similarly distracted. youtu.be/YzhjTeSz9y4?...

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights.

Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.

Grateful to Meredith Anthony and "Deadly Pleasures" for the glowing review of my "A Song for Katy Shayne." She says it's "poignant and full of heart, intriguing and deeply satisfying," praising it as "real and engaging and exciting." My sinister riff on Steely Dan delighted her. Grade: A.

Trinity Church’s organ was severely damaged in the Sept. 11 attacks. Nearly 10 years (and $17 million) later, its replacement has been unveiled. Hear the sound of its 8,041 pipes. nyti.ms/4gUeWvJ

Me neither, said I as I watched all four games.

I see. But it was magical to a 15-year-old kid from Hoboken who slept overnight on concrete at Shea Stadium and used his delivery-boy tips to buy a ticket to Game Four. Jesus, we thought, we can win. "We" being not just the Mets, but also ragtag delivery boys.

The Orioles win three championships since then, the Mets only one. Maybe I should be bitter.

Charlie English's "The CIA Book Club: “The Secret Mission to Win the Cold War with Forbidden Literature” tells how the CIA secretly sent millions of banned novels, pamphlets and other reading material into the East. As the tale confirms, books really can set us free.
