This review for The Bygones is just in from Instagram and really gets to the heart of the book, thanks to Daniel Sheen for the kind words ✌️

Other than that, you can still get my debut small story collection, The Bygones, from Tangerine Press and the single story, A Symbol of a Memory, from Nightjar Press. Two amazingly unique publishers in their different ways.

Night Terrors is the latest anthology by Acid Bath Publications. This book indulges in a myriad of depraved horrors & libertine pleasures stemming from the theme of night life.

I've had stories in the latest 2 issues of Spinners, published just before Christmas. This mag has filled a space in the lit world left by mags such as Joe England's PUSH and has been a relentless and wonderful surprise this year.

As well as being a night for stories and discussion, this event will be Neil Campbell's first outing with his latest collection, Saying Dirty Things in Regional Accents, which I can't wait to read. It was a pleasure to be asked back to Blackwells in Manchester for this event.

Here's a bit of a thread of some recent publications, forthcoming ones and events for anyone who's interested. All of them are well worth a look regardless of my work, fantastic creative spaces that it's been a pleasure to contribute to ✌️

Can't wait to be part of the Working Class Stories event at Blackwells in Manchester with Neil and Wayne in March. If anyone's around, nip down for a chat ✌️

Out here with the dog and Lankum and visiting places in my head for the new novel, revealing motives, actions and emotions before getting back home and to the page.

Here's the first para of Just Dads and Chainsmoking from Spinners issue 7. It was a fun one to write, this one.

The Longest Road I Know is a beautiful new zine by Craig Scott, a journey through the American deep south visiting backwater towns and taking an often poetic look at harsh past via slavery, deprivation & Faulkner.

This Dean Wilson pairing is the 👌. The poems had me bobbing through like a pebble's journey to the shore. Very funny and a pleasure to read. Loved every second of it. @deanwilson.bsky.social

Just finishing up the amazing Coo by Mark Burrow and ready to start To Ease my Troubled Mind, the Billy Childish history. Good time for reading when laid up and off work. 👍

I'm going for:

Lanark - Alasdair Gray
So The Wind Won't Blow it All Away - Richard Brutigan
Billy and the Devil - Dean Lilleyman

The last one is more 'should be a cult classic'

✌️

'A Symbol of a Memory' is a single small story published by Nightjar Press. It focuses on a real event of a local man setting fire to himself in the highstreet & was inspired by hearing people recount their memory of witnessing it & the poetry in the tragic moment

Been off work and housebound due to surgery so it was great to be able to get out up the pit ponds with the dog this morning and hobble around. Recovery going well ✌️

The photos emphasise the overall theme of the stories acting as a journey through the fictional village, interacting with the characters who live there.

Here's part of a collection of photos taken on a snowy day out the window of a car on a drive between Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Shirebrook on a point-and-shoot camera.

Two of the photos were used to bookend my small story collection, The Bygones.

Let me know if you're into WC lit that breathes on the page & tell me who I should be following.
