Is Bruges not the French version as well unlike your other examples which do indeed have different French and Flemish names (or at least spelling).

Sorry to hear all this. Looking at it from outside, academia seems to be eating itself up from the inside with established staff ring fencing themselves at the expense of gifted ECR. I hope the next few months bring happier times.

It’s what fascists do - 12 November 1938 A Dutch Jewish girl, Liane Minzer (or Münzer), was born in The Hague.
In February 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber after the selection together with her older sister Eva. If you don’t “belong”, even children are targets.

It is a classic novel and an introduction to Banks’ the Culture - a power within the galaxy in a very distant future. It is hard-core sci-fi written by one of Britain’s greatest authors. Not easy to read and not for those wanting western style space romps. Try it!
