Apple land (RIP Big Nerd Ranch) is where I learned that the acid test for communication is whether your reader gets it.

I didn't "get it" when I looked at this icon, and I know what a loupe is! Why they chose to get rid of the photos (which provide interpretive context), I haven't the faintest idea

Sorry, meant to include this quote which is apropos:

"That's hard to argue with" definitely has two distinct meanings

Not only is the conclusion to @noupside.bsky.social 's _Invisible Rulers_ significantly less depressing than the rest of the book (which tends to make one think, "Ahh, well, I guess we must buckle in to suffer our French Revolution"), but it has the delightful new-to-me word DISSENSUS

@jim-newell.bsky.social's conclusion

Why should you care? I dunno, probably because Jim Newell is always right on the politics

Fun new Myanmar factoid. They successfully got Facebook to be the only portal for the internet in Myanmar, but hadn't even bothered to fix the character encoding issues in the country.

This "Facebook decides to export post-Citizens United politics abroad" passage from Careless People is very depressing

It does feel like I've constructed a sort of Duff's Device of dependency injection here

This is super exciting! It's an API shift vs Dagger2+Anvil, but the API is *better*, and the K2 story is on point!

Example thing to be excited about - MUCH BETTER ERROR MESSAGES (a huge pain point in d2+a):

I should have included the next paragraph, too:

Another good one: join up with one another in person. Find each other.

Samuel R. Delaney, reflecting on what it was like to suddenly see a mass of gay men together, side by side, in the 1950s pre-Stonewall: (in an orgy, so...wearing a badge of authenticity)

Okay, this is great writing.

"If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me."

This guy clerked for Roberts, fwiw.

Putting together some dogsitting notes.

Not sure whether this is insane advice or just pragmatic.

I've seen a lot of, "It's social media's fault for making people crazy, things aren't all that bad" takes lately.

They're half right! Social media does make people crazy. But things are really that bad!
