Liable to post about random nerdy things.
Fun thing about claude code: I *could* resume each session when I use it.

But it's inconvenient and might clutter the context window.

So apparently I'm the kind of person who's perfectly ok with giving someone else anterograde amnesia to avoid minor inconveniences.

The insanity of this chart.
(electricity imports/exports in TWh)

France exports 20% of its own consumption. Italy imports 15 %, the UK 10%, half of that from France.

France is basically subsidising these countries' degrowth/nimby movements. Even as it suffers from its own.

"The Eurostar is exceptionally busy today, we ask for your understanding."
It'd be far easier to give you my understanding without the knowledge that the same problem happens on the same day every year like clockwork.

My dad is doing this thing again where he'll fetch a jacket of mine from 20 years ago and go "do you need this?"
Sure dad, I've had a gaping hole in my life in the shape of this exact jacket that I could never fill.

I get the continental tourist treatment from my own parents now: I see my parents got an air fryer, I say "une friteuse" and they say "non, un air fryer".

My parents nagged that I'd left the bathroom lights on, I mentioned that with LEDs it made no difference, went to fetch a bulb to prove my point and long story short we've been hunting halogen bulbs all over the house for the last hour.

After years of thinking infohazards were largely theoretical constructs, I'm now faced with 2 of them in my personal life: things which, if I shared them publicly, would be actively dangerous for a significant fraction of the recipients.

The universe has a sense of humour.

I've seen this essay on my substack feed several times now. It's nice, except it's wrong and backwards. It's not quite *obviously* wrong though, it feels right in spirit, but familiarity with the lingo lets you realize it's completely wrong when taken literally.

I'm glad this kind of essay exists, in a way. It's a good reminder of how thoroughly fallible the mind is, and how low it can sink.
Though I wonder: is it more like the cenotaphs on the way to a summit, or like the lurid pictures on cigarette packs?

burrell Street has an interesting system where you can try to book an appointment, at which point they'll show you available slots then ask you to log in via mycharts, at which point the appointment slots disappear.

Today's vibe coding session has been... incredibly rewarding. The coding style is to my liking. The models train properly. I've implemented long-dreamed of features. A true joy.

Switching to AmpCode has only made it better. We've really come a long way in just a year.

Issue with Britain is neither are any of the other parties.

Let me be clear: if I get citizenship before the next GE at this rate I am open to voting Reform simply because a gamble is better than a sure loss.

I don't want to be racist against British people but there are entire subtypes of them that I can't tell apart.

Like I almost went "hey fancy seeing you here" to a friend of my flatmate's" before realising he was not the same guy that I met 3 weeks ago.

Every time I dig into an LLM paper I can feel myself getting crankier.

Everything is terrible: the ideas, the implementation, the reasoning, the frameworks, the hardware...

There's like 3 good things in there and the rest is slop built on top.

I'm like 5 papers and 3 repo away from vixra, max.
