Well-implemented aim assist wouldnt break the game's balance. It also wouldn't apply to motion controls.

Unlike Japan, people will just go play other shooters when they try to play with sticks and can't hit anything. Big reason why the game sells better in the West but Ranked is dead tbh

Well, dual sticks is more inclusive for people with conditions that affect the motor skills needed for motion aiming. About 6% of kids have dyspraxia for example.

Balanced Aim Assist that makes both sticks *and* motion viable is possible and the ideal tbh
August 22, 2025 at 2:34 AM
In general though, Western console shooter players grew up playing with sticks. They've used it their entire lives on a regular basis. So stick controls not being viable is actually the #1 reason I've seen people not stick with Splatoon.

In Japan this is most players' first shooter. So not an issue

When you're trying to attract console shooter players willing to drop $70, you're primarily looking at the people who grew up on CoD and Halo. And in those games sticks > MnK

Now, don't add Aim Assist THAT broken. But there are balanced Aim Assist methods that would benefit the Western scene a lot.
August 22, 2025 at 12:55 AM
Motion controls would still be viable for sure

It's more about growing the base in the West because it is hard for competitive shooter players to justify practicing a completely different control scheme. Lol
August 20, 2025 at 2:27 AM
The end result is Splatoon sells more in West than Japan but it is a much more casual audience that straight up doesn't play Ranked

There is hope that 4 will at least add mouse controls and maybe even finally fix stick controls (lololol). Then there is that transferable skill, more appealing then.
August 20, 2025 at 12:41 AM
They can't easily get new people because competitive-leaning shooter players in the West don't want to learn motion when nothing else uses it competitively; best option is either mouse or sticks (depends on game, CoD is a sticks game for example). It is a non-transferable skill, not worth it. 1/2

I mean I've been rewatching Digimon but need a good sub of Tamers to come out already

...Am I only watching it for Renamon? Yes, yes I am. But can you blame me?

Always wanted to be the animal characters but Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is what made me obsessed with the idea.

Yeah, they used it a bunch because they kept getting bad matchups for Hedit. So they switched between new rapid pro and zap for cooler, sometimes using both at once.

Their standard comp is Sblast/Dread/Hedit/Vsplash, they just didn't want to go through with terrible matchups when they could switch

Sure, you can have him if I can have the vixen.

Awwww, hope things go well for you tho!

Nobody who is satisfied with making it into +3 was ever going to become skilled enough because they lack the necessary mindset.

As a general rule, Splatoon does not appeal to Western gamers that are actually competitive. That is the fundamental struggle here and there's no easy solution for that.

Like you'd think Milky Way got absolutely destroyed by the team that got 2nd judging by these reactions but it didn't feel like that to me at all? Idk
August 3, 2025 at 6:11 PM
If you look at the actual matches, the West's top teams seemed to primarily just have trouble with closing out close games against tough teams. Something JP just has more experience with.

How is getting rid of +3 supposed to address this issue?
