What makes a book "dark", exactly? Wondering if my sci-fi WIP counts. It has a couple of very dark chapters where the MC is tortured, but once they escape most of the plot is more average? #writing 💙📚🪐

End of the year is almost here 👀 How is everyone's writing goals going? Mine (start querying) was wildly unrealistic but I feel like I have learned many things and am getting a much better grip on what my writing speed realistically is. #writing 💙📚🪐

When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut-author. I wanted to go to space and write books about it. Astronaut is off the table these days, but I'm doing my best to make that second half come true for lil' J.

Career goals: I want to be able to pick up a single chocolate bar on a whim without having to put back some other needed item on my shopping list. I accept budgeting will always be a part of my life. I just dont want to have to be constantly rationing out my joy and squeezing pennies to make it fit.

I resurrected my Goodreads in early November (I'm trying to get better at tracking my reading). At the time I set a reading goal of one book per week until the end of 2025. Currently I'm one book away from hitting that goal 😎📚 #books

Nonetheless, My goal for November was 15k words, I managed 17.2k!!!

As a kid I read a lot of my Dad's classic sci-fi and I ended up with Robert Heinlein as my favourite author
Whenever I can I try buy some of his books on 2nd hand sites as most are out of print these days

"Don't go on social media until after you've done some writing in a day" we can discuss whether I've got a social media addiction or not, valid, but the *earliest* I've ever been able to write on a work day is 5pm if I'm WFH (1/4)
