A note for young singers about reviews and critics (I get asked about this all the time).

What a special week, performing Mahler’s 8th Symphony at Het Concertgebouw’s Mahler Festival, and on the 114th anniversary of Mahler’s death, with Klaus Mäkelä & @concertgborkest.bsky.social.

Some news: I’m delighted to be singing the role of Jezibaba in a concert staging of Dvořák’s Rusalka w Domingo Hindoyan & @liverpoolphil.bsky.social, with Sonya Yoncheva in the title role, PLUS this is also the 1st in a series of operas in concert for which I am Creative Producer for the RLPO.

Very much looking forward to making my debut at the Norwegian National Opera at the start of next season, conducted by Ed Gardner, in a role and opera I have long wanted to perform: JEZIBABA in Dvořák’s masterpiece Rusalka 🧙🏻🧜🏻‍♀️🔮

A 5* review from @fionahmaddocks.bsky.social in The Observer for Mahler 3 with Domingo Hindoyan and @liverpoolphil.bsky.social last week. It was a special night.

‘Voices Carry’, an article I wrote for The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce)’s Journal about opera and the remarkable work of the multi-award winning @streetwiseopera.bsky.social, which harnesses the transformative power of music and theatre…

Mahler 3 with Domingo Hindoyan & the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Choir & Youth Company, including my daughter. Performing alongside her, with my own mama in the audience, was a moment:

Over the past 2 years, I’ve introduced a new strategy, Transported By Culture, to the London Transport Museum, 1 major thread of which is Music In The Museum, bringing live music & musicians into the building via both public and private events. 🧵

‘Accelerating Action: Leading the Change’ was the topic of discussion at the Royal Society of Arts’ event for International Women’s Day. It was a pleasure to chair it, with such brilliant panellists. If you missed it, you can watch it back on the RSA’s website: www.thersa.org/videos/accel...

Stepping into the role of Judith on the opening night of English National Opera’s new production of Bluebeard’s Castle was surreal enough, but to hear that it has been nominated for an @olivierawards.bsky.social is jaw-dropping! Congratulations to everyone on Team Bluebeard.

HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY to the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme! Becoming an NGA was career-defining for me. Working with all of the BBC orchestras + Singers & producers was a gift + I made my Proms & solo Wigmore Hall debuts live on Radio 3. Here’s to the next 25 years!

What a week. Mahler 2 with the brilliant Gergely Madaras and Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Polina Pasztircsák & Namur Symphonic Choir. Special to perform this piece in this hall, where Mahler himself conducted it for the first time outside Austria in 1899.

Rest in peace, JJ, giant of literature. It has been (at times) hilarious fielding some of your correspondence and invitations to literary events over the years, but you always found wry amusement in the mix-ups. I would also like to reassure my family that I am alive and well in Belgium.
