Corporations should put what I'm calling "relational infrastructure" on their balance sheets. It's their reputation and goodwill among customers and stakeholders. Companies have been strip-mining that for decades. If depreciation and overhead and other imaginary stuff can be modeled, so can this.

My long-term vision for civilization:
Offworld our industry to orbit & the asteroids, operated by uploaded post-life people living in a VR heaven.
Re-green Earth, stewarded as a garden and nursery world by the still-biological, their needs met by their uploaded ancestors. Who visit often :)

Went on a dive last Saturday and found a "ghost pot" - a lost crab trap that just keeps trapping forever. I dismantled and removed it and freed a half dozen crabs, including 3 tangled in fishing line. Funny thing: once I started loosening the line, they stopped trying to pinch me.
