School shootings have killed 18 people and injured 59 this year, according to @edweek.bsky.social's tracker. Last week's shooting in WI brought this year's total to 39 shootings -- more than one per week of the school year. That's about the same number as last year, but still more than pre-COVID.

Those denials take a toll, data from @commonwealthfund.org shows. Among those whose treatment was delayed thanks to insurance denials, nearly half said their health got worse in the interim.
