This is a natural process, and it’s part of how the dunes constantly shift and change over time. Along some trails, even signs and staircases have been buried. What wonders might be buried underneath the dunes?

What’s a ghost forest? In the Oregon Dunes, a ghost forest occurs when sand carried by wind accumulates. Once it reaches a 33-degree angle, the dune sand begins to slide, burying trees.

The question our city faces is one of trust — not with local police, but with Flock Safety, a company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Contact your city councilors to ask for their support. The key point is that Flock data isn’t kept locally by the city, it’s uploaded online to cloud storage.

Did you receive a poll from Florence City Councilor Robert Carp about the Flock cameras? He told city staff today in a work session that he polled the community.

Wyden spoke about the “lawless” activity by ICE, ending the pharmacy benefit managers who make profits at the expense of patients, and taking a firm stance against Benjamin Netanyahu.

He also spoke about changing the tax code to close loopholes for billionaires.

Thank you to U.S. Senator Ron Wyden for giving his time to answer questions tonight at the Siuslaw Middle School town hall. There were so many great questions, and I was fortunate to have the honor of asking him one about the city’s Flock cameras.

This is totally unhinged. We need our allies like Canada and Europe to help prevent reckless action. Our president is acting out fascist agendas. Does he need breathing room? To quote a dude, “This aggression will not stand, man.”

Once established, coastal forests cannot be removed because they’re habitats for the endangered martens, which have nearly 29,000 acres listed as critical habitat.

While approximately 45% of Oregon’s coastline is flat, the amount of dunes have been receding by about 5 feet per year due to invasive plants and the nitrogen they add to the soil. First beachgrass thrives, and then shrubs, willows and wetlands take hold; finally forests of Shore Pines grow.
January 19, 2026 at 10:38 PM
These invasive plants were first seeded in the late 1800s, and then more rapidly after Hwy 101 was built, to stabilize the shifting sands. They have since threatened the long-term survival of the dunes.
