Hard not to look at US traffic fatality statistics versus the success of places that have banned cars in city centers and not become radicalized that cars are the problem.

As someone stuck in a car-centric part of the Midwest, I dream of being able to ride the NYC subway daily.

In sum: I find Claude and ChatGPT valuable, the existential risks terrifying, and the social media discourse around it icky.

Specifically around hype: I’ve always been put off by how it seemed like crypto influencers suddenly became AI influencers. The hype felt manufactured to drive clicks and newsletter subscribers. But, I also use ChatGPT, Claude, and more everyday.

My problem with this (besides the immorality of throwing out trans rights) is that the electoral majority’s positions are malleable. Don’t chase the lowest common denominator — passionately and proudly advocate for the people who need the most help/protection in society. Have a backbone.

It’s made Threads such an exhausting experience. And if you commit the cardinal sin of clicking any of the bait, your feed is just overrun.
